במקביל למלחמה: הושלמה בנייתו של "הנמל הימי" ברצועת עזה

נשיא ארה"ב ג'ו ביידן הכריז לפני כחודשיים וחצי על הקמתו של "נמל עזה", אשר ישמש קבלת סחורות רבות של סיוע הומניטרי לרצועה. כעת בנייתו הושלמה, וכבר בימים הקרובים צפויים להתקבל בנמל טונות רבות של סיוע שממתינים בנמל בלרנקה, קפריסין

נשיא ארצות הברית ג'ו ביידן נאם בחודש מרץ את "נאום האומה", במהלכו הכריז על ההקמה של "נמל עזה", שיספק סיוע הומניטרי נרחב לרצועה כתוספת למשאיות הסיוע שנחשבות מדי יום. הבוקר (חמישי), ארה"ב הודיעה כי בניית הרציף הסתיימה והוא צפוי להתחיל לפעול כבר בימים הקרובים – כך נחשף בתדריך עיתונאים שביצע סגן מפקד פיקוד מרכז של ארה"ב תת-אדמירל בראד קופר.
הסחורות לרציף ממתינות בלרנקה שבקפריסין ושם הם יעברו בדיקות ביטחוניות. בהמשך הם יחולקו על ידי משאיות של האו"ם וארגון המזון הבינלאומי. קופר הדגיש כי חיילים אמריקניים לא ידרכו בעזה כלל. "יש לנו מאות טונות של סיוע שמוכנות כבר לחלוקה, ועוד אלפי טונות יגיעו בהמשך", הסביר. כמו כן, הוסיף כי הממשלה בישראל תומכת בפרויקט הנמל.
עוד נטען כי כ-2.2 מיליון עזתים סובלים מחוסר ביטחון תזונתי, וציין כי יותר מחצי מהתושבים בצפון הרצועה סובלים מהרעבה ברמה "קטסטרופליות", ואמר כי בדרום הרצועה המצב מעט טוב יותר. שטח הפרויקט ישתרע על 270 דונם, והעבודות על קליטת המזח בוצעו על ידי אגף ההנדסה והבינוי במשרד הביטחון.
