לאחרונה נחשף כי בחדשות 12 החליטו לתבוע את העיתונאי אלי ציפורי בטענה כי נהג לכנות בין היתר את ערוץ 12 "אל ג'זירה" במספר פרסומים שלו. על פי הדיווח, מדובר בתביעת לשון הרע שמוגשת נגד העיתונאי אלי ציפורי בסך 3 מיליון שקל. 
 
לפני ארבעה ימים פרסם עקיבא נוביק, מגיש חדשות כאן 11, ציוץ בחשבון ה-X שלו הנוגע לנושא. "תכלה שנה וקללותיה: חדשות 12 הגישה תביעת לשון הרע על סך 3 מיליון שקלים נגד הפעיל הפוליטי אלי ציפורי", כך כתב העיתונאי המוכר. 
 
בהמשך הציוץ, כתב נוביק: "כיוון שציפורי נוהג לאסוף תרומות מהציבור למימון הפסדיו המשפטיים, מי שתורמים לו כסף מעכשיו צריכים לדעת שיש חשש כבד שיתרמו את כספם לחברת החדשות של ערוץ 12. יידע הציבור וייזהר".
 
מי שלא התחבר לציוץ של העיתונאי עקיבא נוביק הוא לא אחר מאלי ציפורי אשר נתבע על ידי חדשות 12. בתגובה לציוץ של נוביק, מיהר ציפורי לעקוץ את העיתונאי וכתב: "עקיבא, איך זה להיות חלאה על חשבוננו ברייטינג אפסי? ספר לציבור שמממן אותך".
 
אבישי גרינצייג, כתב המשפט של תאגיד השידור הציבורי, שיתף כי בינו לבין איש התקשורת הוותיק אלי ציפורי התנהלו הליכים משפטיים. "גילוי נאות: ביני ובין מר אלי ציפורי התנהלו ומתנהלים הליכים משפטיים, וגם אני זוכה לשלל מחמאות והמצאות ממקלדתו באובססיביות נאה", כך כתב גרינצייג.

    קשה מאד להבין את עקיבא נוביק, יש לו בעיית היגוי. לא כל אחד מתאים לשדר,,, אישית לא מסוגלת לראות אותו בשידורים ומעבירה תחנה......
