לפיד בישיבת הממשלה: ישראל שומרת לעצמה חופש פעולה מלא

ביקור הנשיא האמריקאי ג'ו ביידן מתקרב ולפיד מבהיר שוב את עמדתו אותה הוא מתכנן להציג בפני הנשיא, בנוסף לכך לפיד שוחח אתמול עם מלך ירדן

שלושה ימים לפני ביקור נשיא ארצות הברית ג'ו ביידן בישראל, פתח הבוקר (ראשון) ראש הממשלה יאיר לפיד את ישיבת הממשלה והתייחס לנשואים אותו יעלה בפני הנשיא האמריקאי: "ישראל מושיטה ידה לכל מדינות האזור וקוראת להן לבנות איתנו קשרים, לכונן איתנו יחסים, לשנות את ההיסטוריה למען הילדים שלנו". ראש הממשלה לפיד הוסיף בפתח ישיבת הממשלה כי "זו הזדמנות להודות שוב לנשיא על כך שארצות הברית לא הסירה את הסנקציות על משמרות המהפכה". עוד ציין כי ישראל לא תעמוד מנגד בזמן שמנסים לפגוע בה.
     
כמו כן לקראת הביקור החשוב, שוחחו אמש (שבת) ראש הממשלה לפיד ומלך ירדן עבדאללה השני בטלפון. השניים שוחחו במשך מספר דקות במהלכם לפיד בירך את עבדאללה ואזרחי הממלכה לרגל חג הקורבן והביע את תנחומיו בשם ממשלת ישראל על האסון בדליפת הגז בעקבה. מנגד המלך עבדאללה ברך את לפיד על כניסתו לתפקיד ראש הממשלה ואיחל לו הצלחה. השנים דנו גם בביקור ביידן ובצורך להעמיק ולשפר את שיתוף הפעולה והיחסים בין הממלכה לישראל.
