בעקבות תופעות לוואי מסוכנות: פייזר תפסיק לייצר גלולות הרזייה

פייזר הודיעה על הפסקת פיתוח הגלולה בעקבות פגיעות בריאותיות של נבדקים בניסוי הקליני. כיצד הגלולה הייתה אמורה לעבוד, ומה קרה להם?

חברת פייזר הודיעה אתמול (שני) כי היא מפסיקה את פיתוח גלולת ההרזיה הניסיונית שלה, דנוגליפרון. ההודעה מגיעה בעקבות כך שמשתתפים בניסויים הקליניים דיווחו על בחילות והקאות, ואף אחד מהנבדקים חווה פגיעה בכבד.
פייזר דיווחו שהפגיעה המדוברת קרתה כתוצאה מניסוי לקביעת מינונים אופטימליים, שנועד לזהות את המינון הגבוה ביותר הנסבל בתקופה קצרה. במהלך הניסוי התגלו אצל המטופל רמות מוגברות של אנזימים בכבד שמראות על נזק לתאי הכבד.
"למרות שאנו מאוכזבים מהפסקת פיתוח הדנוגליפרון, אנו נשארים מחויבים להערכה וקידום של תוכניות מבטיחות במטרה להביא תרופות חדשניות חדשות למטופלים", אמר כריס בושוף, נשיא המחקר והפיתוח בפייזר ל-Medical Dialogues. גלולת הדנוגליפרון מעודדת הפרשת אינסולין בתגובה לעליות ברמות הסוכר בדם. בנוסף, היא מאטה את התרוקנות הקיבה, דבר המדכא רעב ותיאבון.
פייזר היא אחת מחברות התרופות הגדולות והוותיקות בעולם, שמקורה בארצות הברית. פייזר זכתה לתשומת לב עולמית עצומה במהלך מגפת הקורונה, כשהייתה החברה הראשונה שקיבלה אישור חירום לחיסון נגד נגיף הקורונה.  פייזר היא אחת מעשר חברות התרופות הגדולות בעולם לפי שווי שוק והכנסות. היא פועלת בלמעלה מ-150 מדינות ומעסיקה עשרות אלפי עובדים.
