מקדונלד'ס חוטפת: תביעה ראשונה בעקבות התפרצות חיידק מדאיג

תביעה ראשונה נגד מקדונלד'ס בעקבות התפרצות E. coli בהמבורגר רבע הפאונד, לאחר דיווחים על 49 מקרים של חולי, כולל מוות אחד, והחברה הפסיקה מכירת המבורגר רבע הפאונד בכמה מדינות בעקבות המקרה

לאחר שהתגלתה ההתפרצות של חיידק ה-E.coli בהמבורגר של הרשת, גבר מקולורדו הגיש את התביעה הראשונה נגד מקדונלד'ס בעקבות התפרצות E.coli הקשורה להמבורגר הרבע פאונד, שהתבטאה עד כה ב-49 מקרים של חולי בעשרה מדינות, כולל מקרה אחד של מוות.
התביעה הוגשה יום לאחר שמרכזי ה-CDC בארה"ב פרסמו אזהרת בטיחות מזון, בה דווח כי עשרות אנשים דיווחו על אכילת רבע פאונד לפני שנדבקו. 
המגיש, אריק סטלי, רכש מזון ממקדונלד'ס בגירלי, קולורדו, לפני שלושה שבועות, וסבל מתסמינים גסטרואינטריאליים, כולל בחילות, כאבים ומעיים עם דם. לאחר מספר ימים של כאבים, פנה לבית החולים שם אובחן כחיובי ל-E.coli. סטלי עדיין מחלים מהמחלה.
בתביעה, שהוגשה בבית המשפט במחוז קוק, אילינוי, נטען כי מקדונלד'ס אחראית למוצרים לא בטוחים, רשלנות והפרת ערבויות משתמעות. אף רכיב ספציפי לא אושר כמקור ההתפרצות, אך ה-FDA ציין כי בצל קצוץ או פטריות בקר עשויים להיות המקור.
נשיא מקדונלד'ס, ג'ו ארלינגר, טען בראיון כי מדובר במצב בטוח וכי הרכיבים המושפעים כבר לא נמצאים במערכת האספקה. "שירות בטוח ללקוחות בכל מסעדה הוא בעדיפות העליונה שלנו," הוסיף.
מקדונלד'ס הפסיקה את מכירת ההמבורגר רבע פאונד בכ-20% מהסניפים והפסיקה להשתמש בבצל קצוץ במגוון מדינות. הספק טaylor Farms Colorado שיתף פעולה עם ה-FDA וה-CDC והסיר את הבצל מהשוק “בהקשר של זהירות יתר.”
