ניצחון בכורה לנבחרת ישראל באליפות העולם בבייסבול

נבחרת ישראל נתנה הופעת בכורה מדהימה באליפות העולם בבייסבול היום (ראשון) אחרי שהביסה את נבחרת ניקרגואה בקאמבק מדהים של הסיבובים האחרונים. 
הישראלים, שהיו סיפור הסינדרלה של האליפות העולם ב-2017, מקווים השנה לחזור על אותו קסם שהביא אותה לחצי הגמר בטורניר אז. הקבוצה, שמורכבת ברובה ממקצוענים הזכאים לאזרחות ישראלית, התחילה לאט במשחק שהתקיים בפארק לונסדיפוט שבמיאמי, והשאירה את הבסיסים עמוסים פעמיים לפני שפגיעה לקיר בשדה השמאלי של ספנסר הורביץ שלח את יעקב גולדפרב הביתה בתחתית הסיבוב השמיני, שהביא אותם לתיקו של 1-1. 
ישראל לקחו את היתרון כאשר גארט סטאבס דפק דאבל שפגע בדשא וקפץ מעל הקיר השמאלי והביא הביתה עוד שני שחקנים. המגיש רוברט סטוק נכנס בתחתית הסיבוב התשיעי וסגר את המשחק 3-1 לישראל. 
ישראל תשחק שלושה משחקים נוספים בשלושת הימים הקרובים מול בית קשה שמורכב מפורטו ריקו, הרפובליקה הדומיניקנית ולאחר מכן ונצואלה - שלושתן מעצמות בייסבול במרכז ודרום אמריקה.
